São Paulo – The articles produced by Suape Têxtil, a textile industry that owns brand Corduroy, are used by factories in Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. On the national and international market for 46 years, Suape Têxtil produces fabrics like corduroy, flats and indigos in factories located in the states of Pernambuco, in the northeast of Brazil, and São Paulo, in the Southeast. The factory of fabrics exports its goods to more than 20 countries, amongst them the Arabs. Of the annual revenues of R$ 120 million – the equivalent to US$ 56.1 million – approximately R$ 40 million (US$ 18.7 million) are export revenues.
"In our production line, corduroy, cotelet and indigo are the products most traded with the Arab countries," stated Carlos Kanadani, a director at Suape Têxtil. Sales to the region began in 2000 and are always through a local representative. According to Kanadani, appreciation and support of Brazilian fashion are the main proposals of the company, which has partnerships with stylists and actively participates in events in the area, like Fashion Rio and São Paulo Fashion Week.
The stylists that use Corduroy products are Alexandre Herchcovitch, Mario Queiroz, Gloria Coelho, Lorenzo Merlino, Fábia Bercsek, Patricia Viera, Maria Fernanda Lucena and Karla Girotto. "These stylists established partnerships with Suape Têxtil – Corduroy in the form of barters. We agree that the stylists will give preference to our releases so that they may give their opinion, and this way we connect our brand to the stylists," he explained. The corduroys, indigos and flats provided by the company are produced with high-end technology and research at the fashion hubs of the world.
In the most recent edition of São Paulo Fashion Week, which took place from July 12 to 18, Suape Têxtil launched its 2007 collection, which presented novelty Bamboo Corduroy, which has a natural bamboo fibre in its composition. The novelty will be added to the company portfolio and will also be presented at fairs in Paris and New York.
The company is now considered one of the most innovative, always pioneering research and development of fashion products, being one of the few Brazilian companies participating in Première Vision – Paris, the most prestigious fashion fair. Suape produces a full line of fashion fabrics for the jeanswear and casualwear segment, with different products and high-end technology threads, using latest generation threading, weaving and finishing equipment.
Three industrial units
Suape Têxtil has an industrial weaving and finishing unit in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco and another two threading, weaving and finishing units in the southeastern state of São Paulo. The three units generate 900 direct jobs. Machinery operated and controlled electronically produces various high quality carded, threaded and twined threads. The air jet looms and finishing plant permit high flexibility in the development of products.
The company industrial units have an annual production capacity of 30 million metres of fabrics that may be found throughout Brazil and are exported to various countries. The United States, Canada, Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile and Colombia are the main destinations for Suape Têxtil products.
