São Paulo – The Federal Savings Bank of Brazil (Caixa) had net profits of R$ 1.344 billion (US$ 609 million) in the first half of this year, growth of 43% when compared to the R$ 937 million (US$ 439 million) registered in the same period last year. The areas of the bank that most collaborated to the performance were financing for habitation, which presented record results in the period, and credit for people and organizations, which also presented significant growth. Caixa expanded its customer base, reaching 36.1 million customers, among current and savings account holders – growth of 7% when compared to June 2005.
