Copenhagen – In an event sponsored by Brazil for analyzing the impact of biofuels in greenhouse gas emissions, the head of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Lisa Jackson, guaranteed that the United States are interested in a strategic partnership with Brazil in the sector.
“Brazil and the United States can work together to develop this type of energy, which protects the environment,” she said.
Lisa Jackson was the United States representative who announced yesterday (7th), in Washington, that the Barack Obama administration now considers hazardous to health six of the so-called greenhouse gases. The announcement was widely commented upon on the second day of the World Climate Conference, in the Danish capital.
The delegation from Sweden, another country interested in the biofuels market, claimed that Brazilian ethanol is the main source currently available for reducing the impact of transportation on global warming. The goal of Sweden is to attain, by 2030, an economic standard capable of rendering the use of fossil fuels unnecessary in the country.
According to the Brazilian foreign office (Itamaraty), the event on biofuels does not aim to create a market for the Brazilian product, but rather to offer to the world an alternative in clean, renewable energy. The meeting takes place in the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference.
