Brasília – This Monday (23rd), the Brazilian Central Bank president Alexandre Tombini said the country’s economic growth will take on a new direction in the next few quarters, and that by the end of this year and the beginning of the next one, Brazil will be growing at approximately 4% in annualized terms.
According to him, the expectation is based on factors such as employment and income, “solid foundations which ensure that domestic demand will be sustained.” He spoke during an address at a ceremony to launch new 10 and 20 real bills containing an increased number of anti-counterfeiting details, to make forgery more difficult.
Tombini stressed that the economy is still creating jobs and that workers’ incomes are going up. He claimed that in the last 12 months, almost 1.2 million jobs were created, and actual workers’ income was up 3.2% due to a decline in inflation, among other factors.
