Rio de Janeiro – A research by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE), disclosed on Friday (22), shows that the tourism sector grew more, in percentage terms, than the Brazilian economy between 2003 and 2007. The percentage of growth of the activity was 22%, as against 19.3% in the economy as a whole.
The figures are in research Tourism Economy – A Macroeconomical Perspective for 2003 – 2007, elaborated in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism. The document also shows that, despite expansion, the contribution of the tourism sector to the country economy remained stable, at 3.6%.
