São Paulo – Brazil’s tourism industry grossed USD 163 billion last year, up 7% from USD 152.2 billion in 2016. The numbers are from a study commissioned from Oxford Economic by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and were made public on the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism website.
According to the study, tourism accounted for 7.9% of Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2017, the 117th biggest share in the world. Tourism industry contribution to GDP in Brazil is expected to increase by some 2.5% this year.
The industry accounted for 6.59 million jobs in the country last year, according to the WTTC-commissioned study, with jobs expected to increase by 1.8% this year.
