Brasília – Passenger traffic at Brazil’s biggest airports could drop as much as 20% during the end-of-year holidays this year in comparison with the last one. The Brazilian Civil Aviation Secretariat is forecasting 16 million passengers during the special end-of-year effort Operação Fim de Ano, which began on Thursday (10) and will end on January 10. Last year, from December 15 to January 10, the country’s 15 main airports handled the 20 million people.
Demand for air transport in Brazil declined in the second half of the year and saw a 5.7% decrease in October from a year ago, according to the Brazilian Airlines Association (Abear). The association believes that despite the slowing demand, the strategy of companies is to lower prices in a bid to at least match last year’s levels.
