Rio de Janeiro – Transpetro, the logistical arm of the Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras, forwarded yesterday (27th) to domestic and foreign shipyards a letter inviting for the tender of eight gas transport vessels of the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef).
According to information supplied by the company, ten Brazilian and nine foreign shipyards were invited. On the next October 15th, the state-owned company will start receiving the technical and financial proposals so that it may sign the contracts by the end of the year.
According to the rules of the edict, companies must also submit the planning of the actions for preparing shipyards to build the vessels, accompanied by a timetable of the main goals to be attained.
According to the president of Transpetro, Sérgio Machado, the first four ships will be delivered in 2010, and the first oil transport vessel should be transferred to the company as early as January.
