Brasília – Bond sales to individuals reached BRL 1.715 billion (USD 541 million) in December, the National Treasury reported this Tuesday (24). The amount sold via the Treasury Direct program is a record for a December and the fourth best result since in 2016. The sales record for a month, BRL 1.848 billion (USD 583 million) occurred in January of last year.
Last month, there were 19,240 new registered users in the program, bringing the total number of active investors to 401,800. Year-over-year, the number of active users (those that actually have made investments) increased 71.8%.
In December, the top selling bonds were the ones based on the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official inflation rate indicator. These bonds had 51.6% of the sales. In second came bonds based on the Selic (the benchmark interest rates), accounting for 28% of sales. In third came the fixed-rate bonds, with 20.4% of sales.
