Tunis – The Tunisian airline Tunisair carried 309,804 passengers in April, up 29.5% from a year ago, it reported this Thursday (4) according to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).
Regular traffic was up 28.8% to 291,393 passengers, with complementary passenger numbers reaching 4,322, up from 149 in April 2016.
Tunisair charter flights carried 14,131 people, up from 12,863 a year ago. Here, the increased throughout was a result of the Umrah, or “minor pilgrimage,” which Muslims make to Mecca outside the Hajj period, according to TAP.
Average aircraft occupancy rate climbed from 68.1% in April 2016 to 76.8% in April 2017.
TAP also said that 71.6% of passengers flew along the company’s Europe routes. Flights to other African countries amounted to 19% of total throughput, with the Middle East accounting for 13.6%. Flights to and from Montreal, the carrier’s sole destination in the Americas, handled 1,698 passengers last month.
