São Paulo – Brazil exported 3 tonnes of maize oil to Tunisia in November this year. According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, the sales generated revenues of US$ 2.4 million. In the same period of last year, Brazil did not export the product to the Arab world.
Maize oil, known for being healthy and fighting cholesterol formation, is used for cooking and seasoning food, and even in the manufacturing of other foodstuffs by the industry. The oil exported from Brazil to the Tunisian market, a country located in North Africa, is of the unprocessed variety, i.e., not bottled.
The Brazilian state that exported maize oil to Tunisia in November was São Paulo. Exports this year only occurred in the month of November. In the first eleven months last year, in turn, Brazil shipped 3,590,000 tonnes of maize oil, resulting in revenues of US$ 6.3 million.
Tunisia is renowned worldwide for its olive oil production. The product, however, is made from olive and is consumed as a high-level product in international cuisine. In the year-to-date period ended November, São Paulo was also the only state to sell maize oil to the Arabs. Last year, the state of Paraná also sold the product to the region.
