Through the project, tourists’ itineraries to be explored on foot are expected to be implemented, appreciating Tunisia’s geographical diversity and cultural richness and helping to create job opportunities in the country’s interior. One focus is to contribute to promoting and developing small tourism businesses, giving them marketing opportunities.
The project will also support the segment’s backpacker associations and civil society organizations. Through it, hiking sites will be selected to have their structure improved. Speaking at the launch, the Tunisian minister of Tourism, Mohamed Moez Belhassine, said that the idea is to highlight Tunisia’s tourist and natural wealth.
The initiative will be implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ-Tunisia) in partnership with Leaders International and with the support of the Project for the Development of Sustainable Tourism in Tunisia, which is an initiative of the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), under the “Programme Tounes Wijhetouna.”
