São Paulo – Olive oil production in Tunisia is expected to increase by 42% in the 2021/2022 season over the previous period, according to data released by the Directorate General of Agricultural Production at the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, published by the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) agency this Monday (4).
The expectation is for the production of olive oil in the 2021/2022 harvest to reach 240,000 tonnes, up 100,000 tonnes over the previous season. These figures may be revised up or down, depending on the weather conditions in October.
In the 2020/2021 campaign, Tunisian olive oil output decreased 65% compared to the 2019/2020 season. According to information from the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, purchases of olives started at a slow pace due to bad weather conditions. Prices rose as storage was depleted and global demand grew.
