São Paulo – Created by two young Tunisian women, Marwa Fersi and Sawsen Bouguerra, the Aggricus project was launched in Tunisia to help female farmers sell their products through a digital platform, Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported on Wednesday (4).
The platform is supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and other partnerships. It offers three services: a marketplace for women’s agricultural and craft products, support for female farmers, and virtual training to develop their skills.
According to TAP, women play an essential role in the Tunisian rural economy. In most cases, however, their activities in the field do not generate revenue or are poorly paid. The activities carried out by women in the countryside in Tunisia include small-scale processing of agricultural products, animal husbandry, weaving, among others.
