São Paulo – The Brazilian events industry had a R$ 209.2 billion (US$ 84.1 billion) turnover in 2013 from 590,000 fairs, congresses and national and international conventions. So says the Events industry Economic Overview survey conducted in partnership by the Brazilian Association of Events Companies (Abeoc) and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae). The figures from the survey have been released by the Brazilian Ministry of tourism this Friday (3rd).
Over half the events surveyed in 2013 took place in Southeast Brazil. Visitors amounted to a combined 202.2 million people whose combined spending reached R$ 99.3 billion (US$ 39.9 billion), or R$ 161.80 (US$ 65) per day.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism, Abeoc chairwoman Anita Pires claims the industry is expecting to even more events and visitors in years to come, due to the projection Brazil has attained by hosting major international events. This year, the country hosted the FIFA World Cup, and in 2016 Rio de Janeiro is hosting the Olympic Games.
