São Paulo – The upcoming 9pm soap opera on Brazil’s TV Globo, “Babilônia” (Babylon), will feature scenes shot in Dubai. The most famous city in the United Arab Emirates received a production team, as well as the actors Adriana Esteves, Tuca Andrada and Sophie Charlotte, between November 24th and 28th.
The soap opera is slated to debut in March next year. Apart from Dubai, the French capital Paris and the beaches in Rio de Janeiro’s Leme district will provide the setting for “Babilônia.”
According to TV Globo, nine different scenes were filmed in Dubai, one of them at a mall with 50 extras and others at famous high-end spots throughout the emirate, including the Emirates Towers and hotel The Address Downtown.
In a statement from TV Globo, the soap opera’s supervising director Dennis Carvalho said filming in Paris and Dubai was a “quick, intense” endeavour. “We took some incredible footage at locations that are not explored that often,” he said.
Adriana Esteves will play one of the leading characters, along with Camila Pitanga and Glória Pires. The lives of characters Beatriz (Pires), Inês (Esteves) and Regina (Pitanga) will become intertwined because of a crime. Beatriz and Inês are childhood friends moved by the ambition to outdo themselves. Regina, for her part, is a humble heroin who comes up in life through her own efforts.
The new soap opera will take the place of “Império” (Empire). Gilberto Braga, João Ximenes Braga and Ricardo Linhares share scriptwriting duties. The supervising director is Dennis Carvalho and the general director is Maria de Médicis.
