Rio de Janeiro – Transpetro, the logistics branch of Petrobras for the transport sector, started operations this Thursday (6) with two new ships that were built in shipyards located in Pernambuco within the Fleet Modernization and Expansion Program (Promef). The gas tanker Lúcio Costa and the suezmax Machado de Assis began their maiden voyage on Thursday (6).
Machado de Assis is the eighth suezmax (oil tankers with its draft built to fit the Suez Canal) built by the shipbuilder Estaleiro Atlântico Sul (EAS). The tanker went to Salvador, Bahia, for fueling. The ship has the capacity for one million oil barrels and, with its 274 meters in length, 157,700 tons deadweight.
Lúcio Costa is the fourth gas tanker delivered to the company and was built by the shipbuilding Estaleiro Vard Promar. The ship went to the Suape, Pernambuco, transportation terminal. With 117 meters in length and capacity for 7,000 cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the ship was built to operate in all regions of Brazil and South America.
