São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates, an Arab country in the Middle East, will send three planes with donations to Brazilian southernmost state Rio Grande do Sul that is facing a catastrophe ushered in by heavy rainfall and flooding. The tragedy has hit 452 cities and left 151 people dead and over 600,000 displaced.
The news was given to Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva by the UAE President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in talk by the phone on Thursday (16).

According to the Brazilian president’s office, the planes will take off in the coming days and bring donations obtained in the country, including from the Brazilian resident community. During the conversation that lasted approximately half an hour, Lula thanked him for the solidarity and remembered the flooding that have impacted the UAE recently and shows the urgency and seriousness of the climate issue.
They talked about other topics, too. Lula reiterated his invitation for the UAE president to visit Brazil. According to the Brazilian president’s office, they also converged on some stances like the support for a ceasefire in Gaza, the guarantee of humanitarian aid, and the two-state solution in the region, as well as the importance of a moderated solution for the conflict in Ukraine.
