São Paulo – The United Arab Emirates has streamlined its visit visa extension process. By paying a 570 dirham fee (roughly USD 155), applicants can prolong their stay in the Gulf nation for a month, the Dubai daily Khaleej Times reported.
In the past, travellers had to leave the country for at least a month in order to renew their visas. This is no longer necessary.
“All companies and visitors should submit applications and transactions before the expiry date of the visa period to avoid violations. The immigration services will be provided at all UAE port of entries and immigration offices,” the Khaleej Times quoted UAE Interior Ministry spokesperson Rashid Sultan as saying.
According to Sultan, the new rule is applicable to all entry permits, including transit visas, short-term (one month) and long-term visit (90 days) visas, student visas, visas for medical treatment and residence visas.
He also said amending of visa status will be done electronically and without complications. The Khaleej Times also reported that foreigners residing in the country hailed the new rule, since they had to return to their countries of origin or travel to nearby countries before applying for renewed visa status.
