São Paulo – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported this Wednesday (13) that UN agencies need USD 7.73 billion in order to support people affected by civil war in Syria, and called on member countries to make donations.
The UNHCR said the money is needed for supporting 4.7 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries and 4 million residents of the communities that have welcomed said refugees, as well as assist 13.5 million displaced people within Syria.
The conflict in Syria broke out almost five years ago, and as per UNHCR data it has claimed roughly 250,000 lives, leaving another 1.2 million wounded.
