Nova York – The special coordinator for the Middle East of the United Nations (UN), Nickolay Mladeno, warned this Thursday (23rd) that the coexistence of two states – Israel and Palestine – solution is today “further apart than ever” and asked the two parts to “act decisively” to reach peace. “Support for the two-state solution among both Palestinians and Israelis is fading away”, said Mladenov in a brief for the Security Council, which is promoting a special debate about the situation in the region.
“Now is the time to act decisively to reverse the growing perception that the two-state solution is on life-support”, added the UN’s representative. Mladenov praised the attempts by the international community, headed by Europe, to press forward a new diplomatic initiative to unlock the situation with the help of the Arab countries.
