São Paulo – This Friday (9th), the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, paid a visit ot Somalia. According to the UN, it a secretary general’s first visit to the country in nearly 20 years. Ki-moon met with the Somali president, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, and with high-ranking government officials. The information was disclosed by UN Radio.
During the visit to the African country, which is in the midst of a civil war and a hunger crisis, the secretary general discussed the future of the nation with local authorities and asked them how the international community may help the Somalis.
Ki-moon announced that in January 2012, the United Nations Political Office to Somalia will be transferred from Nairobi, Kenya, to the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
