São Paulo – The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will organize, next Wednesday (30), in Geneva, Switzerland, a meeting about the situation of Syrian refugees in the world. According to information released this Thursday (24) by the UN’s agency, the goal of the meeting is to increase, through the next three years, the options for refugees to get to other countries.
As an example of initiatives in this regard, UNHCR lists resettlement programs, humanitarian visas, private sponsorship, family reunion, scholarships or internships, work and transfers due to medical reasons. For the agency, it’s an opportunity for the government of different countries to search for solutions for this issue. According to UNHCR, Syria’s neighboring nations by themselves received around 4.8 million refugees.
The meeting is the result of a conference held in London last month with the goal to collect resources humanitarian aid in Syria. Representatives of 80 countries, ten international organizations and 24 non-governmental organizations are expected to attend.
