São Paulo – During her welcoming of participants of the 11th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad), the mayor of the city of São Paulo, Marta Suplicy, announced that the meeting promotes the city as a gateway to South America.
"Unctad taking place here marks São Paulo as a metropolis that promotes multicultural events, as well as the entryway to South America," said the mayor, during the opening ceremony at the Palácio de Convenções do Anhembi, expo center where Unctad is being held.
São Paulo state governor Geraldo Alckmin added that "São Paulo is fertile soil for planting ideas, as well," which is exactly the goal of Unctad: formulate policies for development.
