The unemployed population stood at 12.2 million in November, 3.9% less (501 thousand people) than in August and 2.9% less (down by 364 thousand people) than in November of last year. The employed population of 93.2 million is the biggest one of the historical series since 2012. The number of employed people is 1.2% bigger (up by 1.1 million people) than in August and 1.3% bigger (up by 1.2 million people) than in November of last year. “The silver lining is the increased labor market. However, what defines most of these jobs are the informality. And we know the long-term damages that come from this. For example, there are no contributions for social security. Examples include people starting to work informally with transportation apps and the ones selling lunches,” said the IBGE surveyor Cismar Azeredo.
