Rio de Janeiro – The 6.2% unemployment rate recorded in September this year is Brazil’s lowest ever since records started being kept, in 2002. In August, the rate had been 6.7% and in September last year, 7.7%. The data were culled from the Monthly Employment Survey and disclosed today (21st) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
According to the survey, the unemployed population in September totalled 1.48 million people. This is the first time that the unemployed population in Brazil is lower than 1.5 million.
According to the IBGE, the average actual habitual income was 1,499 Brazilian reals (US$ 895.7), i.e., 1.3% more than in August this year and 6.2% more than in September last year.
