Rio de Janeiro – The unemployment rate reached 13.6% from February to April of this year, rising 1 percentage point over the previous three months (November to January). The data was made public this Wednesday (31) in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and is part of the National Household Sample Survey (PNAD).
With the rise, the number of unemployed people in April reached 14 million people, up 8.7% over the previous three-month period – or 1,1 million more unemployed. Compared to February to April of 2016, there are more 2.6 million people, an increase of 23.1%.
