Cabo de Santo Agostinho (Pernambuco) – The economic advisor at the British Embassy in Brazil, Catherine Barber, announced last Tuesday (25th) that her country will help as many as 15 tech startups in Brazil with going international. The initiative is called UK Chapter and is an extension of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade’s InovAtiva Brasil program (a portmanteau of the words innovate and active). The program has seen 20 Brazilian startups go through training in Silicon Valley, the United States, an area known for its highly innovative technology companies. There, they received mentoring and training and engaged in networking.
The announcement was made at the 15th Anpei Conference on Technological Innovation, held in Cabo de Santo Agostinho (in the state of Pernambuco), and the effort is expected to be repeated in years to come. The startups will be shortlisted from among 195 candidates, 100 of which are from this year’s edition of InovAtiva, with 95 from two past editions. According to Catherine, there is interest in the UK in projects in information technology, sustainable development, creative industry, healthcare, biotechnology and defense.
Expressing interest in the “creativity of Brazilian enterprises and entrepreneurs,” the advisor said that in addition to the office in London, they will enjoy the same benefits as British businesses in terms of market access, both locally and in Europe.
