Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) – The Uruguayan ambassador in Argentina, Alberto Volonté Berro, stated yesterday (7), during the Mercosur Summit, that he is going to follow the recommendations of the bloc partners with regard to the Arab countries.
When asked whether Uruguay is interested in a free trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Berro stated that "Uruguay is a member of the Mercosur, and the Uruguayan voice will always be that of the Mercosur."
The CCG requested in February, through the Saudi embassy in Argentina, the start of talks for a trade agreement with the South American bloc. At this moment, however, the remaining members of the Mercosur are being asked about their possible interest in this treaty.
