São Paulo – The business roundtables promoted by the Brazilian Medical Device Manufacturers Association (Abimo) during the Hospitalar trade fair for the medical industry, in the city of São Paulo, resulted in US$ 14.6 million in deals for the coming 12 months. The meetings were attended by 21 buyers from 13 countries, among them Algeria, Egypt and Sudan.
A total of 615 meetings were held, resulting in US$ 350,000 in contracts signed on the spot with companies from Bolivia, Panama, Portugal and Paraguay. The business roundtables also counted on support from the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex).
According to the executive director of the Abimo, Hely Maestrello, the business volume was 10% greater than at the meetings held last year. in a release issued by the Abimo, the director stated that the good performance of the roundtables is a consequence of an improvement in the international image of Brazil, and in national product technology.
As for Arab countries, two importers from Egypt and two from Algeria attended. Egyptian company Medical Technology, for instance, came seeking equipment for vascular surgery and cardiology, products for peripheral interventions, general and orthopaedic surgery. The Algerian company, 2A2 Medicalys, became interested in physiotherapy and rehabilitation equipment.
In addition to the countries already mentioned, the meetings were also attended by companies from Costa Rica, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Thailand, and Uganda.
