Brasília – President Michel Temer has said, this Wednesday (21) that the United States will start negotiations with Brazil on a new steel and aluminum import tariff. When talking about the tariff, introduced in a statement by the North American government, Temer said that the new tariff won’t go into effect until negotiations are ongoing.
“I’m reading right now a statement made by the White House that Brazil is one of the countries with which they will start negotiations on possible exemptions to the steel and aluminum import tariffs. The new tariffs, says the White House’s statement, won’t go into effect until negotiations are ongoing. That’s good news,” said the president during a meeting of the Economic and Social Development Council (CDES).
The tariffs were expected to go into effect this Friday (23), two weeks after being enacted by Trump.
