São Paulo – The University of São Paulo (USP) has registration open, up to September 6th, for the Exchange Scholarship Program for Graduate Students, which offers 1,110 scholarships, with duration of up to 18 months, in institutions in several countries. Among the options are Université Saint-Joseph, in Lebanon, and Université Cadi Ayyad, in Morocco.
The programme offers two kinds of scholarships. The Scholarships of Academic Merit have as their objective providing international academic training and experience to students through courses or research programs at foreign institutions of renowned quality. The duration of this scholarship is two to six months, and it may be extended to 18 months, at the most, in case of courses with double diplomas (in which the student receives one diploma from USP and another from the foreign university).
The Entrepreneurship Scholarships, in turn, are aimed at providing graduate students with an opportunity for training abroad, geared at stimulating the development of technological innovation and entrepreneurship. This scholarship modality can last two to six months. Only USP students may compete for the scholarships. The university offers 960 scholarships in the Academic Merit and 150 in the Entrepreneurship modality.
Among the criteria considered for the choice of students winning the scholarships is good academic performance, the evaluation of a study plan and activities the student plans to develop in exchange and participation in scientific initiation projects. It is also necessary for students to have command of the language the course chosen will be taught in.
Regarding the choice of the international university, the student must take into consideration whether the institutions have agreements with USP, and also if they are in the area of study. In the case of Université Cadi Ayyad, the agreement is valid solely for Geology students. Université Saint-Joseph, in turn, has agreements for all the institution’s courses. The period of exchange will be the first half of 2014.
Apart from Lebanon and Morocco, candidates may choose between universities in 60 other countries, like Germany, Australia, Belgium, the United States, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and the United Kingdom, among others.
