São Paulo – The University of São Paulo (USP) is going to open enrolments for its introductory course in Arabic language and culture. Interested persons should enrol online on July 30 and follow the schedule available at the university’s website to check the list of selected candidates and enrol.
Classes will start on August 10 and will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at two different times, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm, taught by Iraqi professor Khalid Tailche, who holds a degree in literature. According to the institution’s website, there has been strong demand from people interested in learning Arabic and general Arab culture.
USP’s course aims to provide an overview of the Arab world, and an introduction to the classic Arabic language used in media such as newspapers, magazines and TV news reports, as well as formal situations such as addresses by presidents and other authorities.
There are no prerequisites for attending the course, and no selection interviews will be conducted. Anyone may apply for a positon, however USP students, teachers and employees will have priority. Each class will have 20 students at most. Prices range from 115 to 500 Brazilian reals (US$ 65 to US$ 290), depending on whether the candidate has ties with the university or not, and on the form of payment.
