São Paulo – Brazilian vehicle exports (cars, light commercial trucks, lorries and buses) broke records in the first two months of 2006. According to information disclosed yesterday (06) by the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), shipments generated US$ 1.3 billion in the first two months of the year, against US$ 1.06 billion in the same period last year.
Production in the half was also record and reached 397,000 units, against 346,800 in the first two months of 2005. The Anfavea believes that exports are going to reach US$ 11.5 billion in 2006, a value 2.7% greater than that registered in the same period last year.
In February alone, vehicle shipments generated US$ 707.6 million, against US$ 574.7 million in the same month of 2005. Production, in turn, reached 201,900 units, against 186,000 in February last year.
On the domestic market, a total of 127,800 vehicles were traded in February, 11.3% more than the 114,900 units sold in the same month last year. In January sales totalled 132,900 vehicles on the domestic market.
In the whole of last year, Brazil produced 2.45 million vehicles and exported the equivalent to US$ 11.2 billion.
