São Paulo – Vehicle exports from Brazil soared 37.1% in January 2016 from January 2015 to 22,300 units. In January 2016 from December 2015, exports plummeted 51.7%. The numbers were released this Thursday (04) by the National Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Anfavea).
“We saw a quite significant improvement year-on-year in January. Despite the decline relative to December exports, the year-on-year increment is what matters. We will continue to prioritize exports and work with the government to break into new markets in this first half,” said Anfavea president Luiz Moan.
Moan also claimed the Brazilian auto industry is in talks with Argentina, its biggest buyer. “Before the month is over, we will know where we stand with the Argentinian auto industry and we will be able to monitor what agreement will be suggested by both governments.”
Brazilian vehicle production, however, fell 29.3% in January from a year ago, Anfavea reported. In January 2016, 145,000 units were made. In January from December 2015, production grew 1.6%.
Domestic sales of new vehicles in Brazil dropped 38.8% year-on-year to 155,300 units sold. In January from December, domestic sales were down 31.8%. “The performance was fairly negative, but it didn’t come as a surprise, because we had put out a warning that we’d see sharpest relative declines than the full-year forecast,” the Anfavea president said.
