São Paulo – Carmakers installed in the country almost doubled the number of vehicles they produced in January, with 186,124 units, 92.7% more than production in December last year (96,586). When compared to the first half of 2008, however, there was a 27.1% reduction. The figures were disclosed today (09) by the National Association of Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), in São Paulo.
The Anfavea figures show that in January, national and imported vehicle sales on the domestic market were 1.5% greater than in December last year, with a total of 197,454 units licensed. When compared to January 2008, there was an 8.1% reduction.
Still according to statistics by the organisation, production of agricultural machinery dropped 13.4% in January when compared to December 2008 and 20.8% in comparison with the first month of last year.
The organization’s figures also show that there was an expressive reduction in exports of vehicles produced in Brazil, falling from 43,580 units in December 2008 to 22,600 in January this year, which represents a reduction of 48.1%. Over January 2008, the reduction was 60.5%.
