Brasília – In the first seven months of 2018, the amount of electricity generated from wind power was up 17.8% in Brazil, Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE) – which handles the purchase and sale of energy in the country – reported this Friday (14). Output from wind farms averaged 4,470 megawatts (MW) year-to-date through July, up from 3,793.9 MW a year ago.
“Wind accounted for 7% of all power generated in 2018. Hydraulic sources made up 74.5%, while thermal sources accounted for 18.1%,” the CCEE said.
According to the Chamber, 520 wind farms are operating commercially in the country. By the end of July, they had 13,240.10 MW in combined installed capacity, up 17% from 11,313.50 MW from 446 units in existence in July 2017.
