Dubai – With a bit of Brazilian help, the United Arab Emirates registered this Monday (15) in the Guinness World Records, the largest jiu-jitsu class in the world. In total, 2,700 people participated in the feat, which took place in 14 different parts of the country, including Jubilee Park, at Expo 2020, in Dubai.
Under the command of Brazilian master Renzo Gracie and with the support of the Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2020, the place was transformed into a giant open-air dojo, taking advantage of the city’s desert climate. Renzo is part of the Gracie family, known in Brazil and worldwide as a reference in jiu-jitsu.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is considered a national sport in the UAE. The martial art integrates, for example, the official program of schools in the country. Several children could be seen walking around Expo 2020 wearing the traditional kimono this Monday.
