São Paulo – Brazil’s Ministry of Labor got 4,703 work visa applications in Q1 this year, it reported this Friday (13).
A press release from the Ministry said that since the immigration law changed in November 2017, it received 4,794 applications, which are made via its general office for immigration (Coordenação-Geral da Imigração – CGig).
Labor minister Helton Yomura said the new law was an effort from the federal government to bring in skilled foreign labor and cut paperwork requirements for those who are already working in Brazil and need to attain legal status.
There are two types of permits: one is a two-year permit for foreigners looking to come to Brazil to work. The other is for those already working in the country under a temporary visa and wish to secure a permanent work visa.
