Rio de Janeiro – The World Bank announced on Wednesday (16) credit of US$ 20 million to the government of the state of Rio de Janeiro to finance the recovery of agriculture in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro state, greatly affected by rains in January. According to the State Agriculture and Livestock Secretariat, the loan will be repaid in 28 years.
According to secretary Christino Áureo, the funds should be used to recover the farms of 500 farmers who had their lands totally destroyed by rainwater. Apart from that, the government should also invest the funds in the recovery of roads.
The government of Rio de Janeiro also announced the investment of 20 million reals (US$ 12 million) in the reconstruction of houses in rural areas in the cities affected by rains. "Initially, we should rebuild around 500 homes," said the secretary.
