São Paulo – The twelve Brazilian cities that will host FIFA 2014 World Cup matches will get 110.6 million reals (US$ 54.1 million) from the Ministry of Tourism for tourist infrastructure works. City halls and state governments will also contribute, adding up to a total of 120 million reals (US$ 58.7 million).
The bulk of the funds will be spent on implementing tourist service centres, tourist signs, and accessibility works at the main attractions in each city. By 2013, this type of investment is expected to amount to 200 million reals (US$ 98 million), according to Tourism minister Gastão Vieira.
The majority of funds will go to Rio de Janeiro, at 17.92 million reals (US$ 8.7 million), followed by Natal, at 17.58 million (US$ 8.6 million), Fortaleza, at 17.43 million (US$ 8.5 million), and Recife, at 14.97 million (US$ 7.3 million).
