Rio de Janeiro – The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has announced that the World Cup Legacy Trust, with funds of US$ 20 million from the entity to finance social, education and health projects in Brazil, will be launched in March. The FIFA secretary-general, Jérôme Valcke, anticipated this Thursday (23) the sum of the investment, which may increase with donations from other institutions and sponsors.
Valcke recalled that the projects must be related to football. “There has to be football. We want projects to be related to football and to children, because children are the future. My two-year old son is the future, not me. This is the generation we have to protect. We are lucky to have had education, and our duty is to ensure that all children have access to education and health,” said Valcke.
The announcement was made at an institute for children and teens, Bola pra Frente, founded in 2000 by former player Jorginho, located in the Guadalupe neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The institute will receive US$ 200,000 for investments from the FIFA Football for Hope project and should receive another US$ 800,000 from the Legacy Trust.
