São Paulo – Tourists on trips to Brazil during the FIFA World Cup, held from June 12th to July 13th, spent more than usual during their stays in the country. According to a survey conducted in partnership between the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and the Economic Research Foundation (FIPE, in the Portuguese acronym) and released this Tuesday (26th), daily spending by foreigners averaged US$ 134. The non-World Cup average is US$ 68.94. Total spending per foreigner in Brazil was US$ 2,000. Regular per capita spending averages at US$ 1,100.
According to the survey, foreigners spent 13 to 15 days in the country. Habitually, they spend 16.5 days on average. World Cup visitors also had higher incomes than usual: the average family income of foreign World Cup tourists was US$ 6,489. The family income of “traditional” tourists is US$ 1,850.
During the World Cup, Brazil received tourists from 203 countries. Most were from Argentina, the United States, England, Colombia and Chile.
