Brazil’s Agriculture minister Tereza Cristina said last week during a webinar hosted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber that Arab countries are one of the priority foreign markets amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The Chamber’s president Rubens Hannun proposed that the organization work together with the Ministry on a strategic plan for enhancing Brazilian-Arab trade relations. The minister agreed to join in, as did Union of Arab Chambers secretary-general Khaled Hanafy. ANBA’s Thais Sousa broke the news that Egypt authorized imports from 42 Brazilian poultry and beef packing plants. Proceedings have also concluded for Brazil to greenlight citrus fruit imports from Egypt. All that is pending is publication of the agreed-upon requirements in the Brazilian Federal Gazette. And check out a story on Palácio do Sultão (The Sultan’s Palace), a Syrian culture and cuisine venue created by a family who left Aleppo from Brazil back in 2014. The Zinous run the business together, sharing their culture with the Brazilian people. During the pandemic, they’re selling takeaway and delivery.
