This Tuesday (11) in your ANBA Bulletin: Morocco recognized a certificate provided by Brazil for fish exports. In an interview with Thais Sousa, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture’s secretary for Aquiculture and Fisheries, Jorge Seif Júnior, said this is a chance to even out trade, since Morocco already exports fish to Brazil. ANBA is also covering São Paulo governor João Doria’s trip to the UAE. Doria spoke with investment fund executives and believes that the Arab country could be the source of USD 7 billion in investments into privatization and concession programs in São Paulo. Morocco opening to fish from Brazil evens out trade balance

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) announced last Thursday (6) that Brazil can now export fish to Morocco. In a press release, MAPA reported that the Arab country has recognized the International Zoosanitary Certificate (CZI) that Brazil presents to export the product.

The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, said that, with the opening of the state’s new international office in Dubai, he expects to attract BRL 30 billion (USD 7 billion) in investment in concession and privatization programs over the next three years. The opening event ran this Monday (10) afternoon in the area of Dubai Maritime City in Port Rashid, where the office will be located and maintained by DP World. This is São Paulo’s second international office. The first one opened last year in Shanghai, China.

São Paulo-based companies to be incubated in Abu Dhabi

São Paulo state government João Doria reached a partnership agreement on Sunday (9) that will see technologically innovative enterprises out of the state undergo incubation in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ten startups will be selected.

 | After three shipments of its products to the United Arab Emirates, company Sabor das Índias set the Arabs as a priority for the foreign market. “It’s certainly a priority this year. We’re delighted with the Arab market; a great synergy came up. We still haven’t closed any large deal yet, but we are looking out and working on that,” the company’s CEO Gustavo Moreira de Aquino told ANBA.

Qatar Airways is willing to double its stake in LATAM to 20%, its CEO Akbar Al-Baker (pictured) told Reuters. The Qatari carrier currently owns 10% in the Chilean-based LATAM, which is the outcome of a merger of Chile’s LAN and Brazil’s TAM.

Morocco welcomed some 13 million tourists last year, up 5.2% from 2019, Maghreb Arabe Press (MAP) reported quoting Tourism Observatory figures.

Arab countries’ fruit imports from Brazil up 34% in 2019

Brazilian fruit sales to Arab countries were up 34% in 2019 from 2018, to 15,851 tonnes’ worth of apples, limes, melons, watermelons, mangoes, grapes, peaches, nuts, oranges, guavas, etc. Export revenue was up 32% to USD 18.84 million. Arab countries accounted for 1.61% of volume and 2.19% of revenue from Brazilian fruit exports.
