What Egypt's Giardino plans for Brazil
This Thursday (2) in your ANBA Bulletin: Egypt’s brand Giardino has some plans for the Brazilian market. The company, which manufactures tomato and fruit concentrates, has studied the characteristics of local consumption and is in talks with a representative to sell to the South American country. Lebanese supermarkets started pricing items in dollars earlier this week as allowed by the local government. The country’s dramatic crisis has impacted the rate exchange and retail. Egyptian exhibitors signed contracts at food trade show Gulfood, and the Brazil Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai won an architecture award. |

Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP) saw 0.2% quarter-on-quarter slowdown in the fourth quarter of 2021 but ended the year posting a 2.9% growth to BRL 9.9 trillion (USD 1.9 trillion). The GDP per capita reached BRL 46,155 (USD 8,846) last year, up 2.2% from the previous year.

Supermarkets in Lebanon started pricing items in US dollars on Wednesday instead of the nose-diving local currency, after a government announcement allowing the practice in a country heavily reliant on imports.Since late 2019, Lebanon has been facing a dramatic economic crisis that has seen poverty rates climb to reach more than 80 percent of the population, according to the United Nations.

The Brazilian government appointed a new ambassador to Egypt as the mission of ambassador Antonio Patriota, who has been in office since 2019, ends. Last Monday (27), the government of Egypt approved the nomination of diplomat Paulino Franco de Carvalho Neto (pictured) as Brazil’s ambassador to Cairo, the Arab country’s capital city. As per the Constitution, the appointment of Carvalho Neto has yet to be confirmed by the Federal Senate of Brazil.

Morocco was removed from the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an intergovernmental body established at a G7 meeting in Paris to protect the financial and economic system against threats of money laundering, financing terrorism, and distribution of weapons of mass destruction. FATF announced its decision on Friday (24), as disclosed by the Moroccan Embassy to Brazil in Brasília.

Bahrain’s sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa was crowned with the gold in the FEI Endurance World Championship, making him the champion of the 160-kilometer race in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
