And the interview that Tunisia’s ambassador to Brazil, Mohamed Hedi Soltani, gave our reporter Bruna Garcia, saying how his country is getting by during the coronavirus crisis. Tunisia exported less to Brazil in the first quarter but started lockdown sooner, and some sectors have started operating again. And the government of Egypt is offering subsidy to aid tourism industry workers during the pandemic. Egypt’s authority for supply got a loan of USD 100 million to import staples like sugar and wheat. And the UAE wants to become a leader in devising a post-coronavirus strategy and is outlining action plans to enhance productivity and competitiveness of its medical product industry. The country has also moved ahead the submission deadline of the Zayed Sustainability Prize to June 11, 2020.

São Paulo – The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce has established a committee to identify the demands of Arab governments and institutions for essential products during the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee will work in partnership with Brazilian entities and associations to find companies that can supply the sought-out goods, mostly of them foodstuffs. There are already demands for maize, sugar, soy, poultry and beef from the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

São Paulo – In the first quarter of 2020, Tunisia shipments to Brazil slid by 54.7% from a year ago. The North African country sold USD 9.2 million worth in goods to Brazil, mostly chemicals, machinery, olive oil, and clothing. Exports from Brazil to the Arab country declined by 6.5% in Q1, grossing USD 51.6 million. Brazil mostly sells cereals like soy, as well as sugar, tobacco and coffee to Tunisians.

São Paulo – The deadline for submissions or the 2021 Zayed Sustainability Prize has been moved ahead to June 11 as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic. The new deadline was announced during the webinar “Sustainability as crisis response,” hosted by the Prize this Monday (4) and featuring Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce secretary-general Tamer Mansour. The former submissions deadline was May 21.

Rio de Janeiro – Petrobras informed last Monday (4) the reopening of the sale process of its stake in Petrobras Gás S.A. (Gaspetro). The state-owned oil company currently owns a 51% stake in Gaspetro. Mitsui Gás e Energia do Brasil holds the remaining 49% of the shares. The analysis and qualification phase for potential buyers will extend until May 15.
