São Paulo – In Saudi Arabia, 542 marriages happened online ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out, Arab News reported. The marriage contracts have been filed since March 16, when this service ceased to be available onsite.
The contracts are filed under Najiz, the services portal of the Saudi Ministry of Justice. The website provides services to Saudi citizens including checking “medical examinations online, without the need to physically visit a hospital and to record a marriage electronically in the Ministerial Agency of Civil Affairs.”
Speaking with Arab News, Abdul Aziz Mohammed – who got married online – lauded the initiative. “We weren’t planning on having a big wedding anyway, and this makes it easier on all of us. The money we would have spent on a wedding can go into savings instead, and no one will be at risk of catching the virus from our party,” he said.
