São Paulo – Volkswagen Lorries and Buses of Brazil broke a new sales record in 2006. The company sold over 37,000 units on the domestic and foreign market, representing an increase of 4% when compared to 2005. The vehicle maker was the market leader in the wholesale market for lorries over five tons gross weight, selling 22,403 units – 573 more than the main competitor.
Sales of buses totalled 4,925, growth of 40% when compared to the previous year. Exports grew 10% when compared to 2005, breaking a record for the sixty consecutive year, reaching 10,000 units shipped. Over 30 countries purchased products made by the brand. Argentina answers to 30% of the orders, followed by Chile and Mexico. Gross revenues should be the greatest in the 25 years of the vehicle maker, reaching R$ 4 billion (US$ 1.9 billion).
