Rio de Janeiro – Brazilian oil company Petrobras expanded by 1.5% it’s natural gas and oil reserves in Brazil in 2013. On an announcement released on Tuesday (14) evening, the state owned company said that these reserves represent 1.09 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
The volume is equivalent to 110 days of production. With the increase, the company now has a proven reserve of 15.97 billion barrels in Brazil. The expansion was managed, mainly, because two areas of the pre-salt concession in the Santos Basin were declared marketable: the Búzios field (previously known as the Franco area) and Sul de Lula (former Sul de Tupi area).
Abroad, Petrobras’ reserves were expanded to the equivalent of 52 million barrels, volume insufficient to replace it’s assets sales and production of 172 million barrels. With this, the oil company’ s international oil reserves declined from 711 million barrels in 2012 to 592 million barrels in 2013.
